VIDEO: Matisyahu's performance at the Apple Store
In a move even more unpredictable than his beard-shaving, Jewish-reggae-beat-boxing music sensation Matisyahu played a free show last night at the Apple Store on Boylston just hours before he headlined at the House of Blues. So, in a way, he opened for himself… only at a different venue.
I had the privilege of attending the free and intimate show last night and captured some powerful (albeit backlit) video. And, if you hadn’t told me that the sharply dressed, clean shaven, bleach blonde guy on stage was in fact Matisyahu, I would have sworn he was one of Apple’s many attractive Geniuses pulling a stunt.
But as soon as Matisyahu began crooning the crowd, my doubts of his true identity went out the window. His beat-boxing, falsetto, and spiritual vibes were so on point, that he made one happy fan tear up. Meet Pipa Johns (pictured), a Brazilian native whose biggest goal of the night was to -as his sign reads- shake Matisyahu’s hand and get a picture. Lucky for him (and everyone else), the ‘Matisyahu photobooth’ was another perk of last night’s free performance.
If you missed either of Matisyahu's two shows last night- not to worry. He's playing Providence next week!
