We are excited to welcome hundreds of young adults (22-40) to our annual Open House Party on September 10th. In addition to meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends, you’ll have the chance to get to know over 55 different organizations with awesome opportunities for you to get involved in the Jewish community. Want to know who will be there and what you can talk to them about? As we count down to the big event, we’ll be giving you a sneak peek into just some of the many organizations that you’ll meet with these quick organization spotlights.
Now in it’s 6th cycle, JCRC’s ReachOut! program has been helping young adults volunteer across the Greater Boston area with the chance to build community through shared learning and Jewish experiences. We caught up with Rina Rossman who has been a volunteer with ReachOut! to hear about her experience and find out what’s on tap for the year!
Who are you and how did you get involved in the organization?
I first became involved in ReachOut! during the very first cycle. Volunteering had always been a big part of my life, but after moving back to the city I was finding it hard to get involved again. I loved the idea of committed volunteering and getting to know young adults within the Jewish community.
What do you love most about working with young adults?
I’ve really enjoyed getting to meet people within the community who are my own age. I find it really encouraging to see just how many dedicated and engaging 20-30’s there are within in the Boston Jewish community.
What’s new and exciting this year?
This fall, ReachOut is exploring new partnerships, including working with the Elizabeth Peabody House’s Food Pantry. We are also happy to offer an interfaith track for couples looking to do meaningful work together in the community. Our kick-off this fall will partner with the organization Birthday Wishes, which provides birthday parties for children in homeless shelters. We are also excited to offer for the second year, both our interfaith volunteer day in Novemeber and our day of “voluncheer” on Christmas day.
What do you love most about Boston’s Jewish community?
I love the diversity and enthusiasm within the community. There are so many passionate people, all working within hundreds of different organizations, with the goal of doing meaningful work to better our community and city. I enjoy exploring the range of interests covered by the numerous Jewish groups around the city.
What are you looking forward to most about attending Open House Party?
I am excited to meet new people and tell them about the amazing work that ReachOut does. I also look forward to exploring some of the other organizations present and hopefully hearing about new groups that are just starting up.
