Dear Friends,

This evening marks the beginning of Shavuot, the much-anticipated commemoration of the giving of the Torah and the festival of first fruits.

The harvest aspect of Shavuot is very much on my mind this year. Warm weather has yielded more green than I can ever remember at this exact time. Produce is looking better and better. Gardeners and gardens are out in full force.

At the JCC, we have recently undertaken a full-scale strategic planning process. Last week, the JCC Governing Board approved a budget newly aligned to a set of imperatives that will guide our future growth. On Thursday evening June 3, following our annual meeting and election of officers, the Governing Board and staff will host an exciting evening with Rabbi Irwin Kula, president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership (Clal), who will speak to a new vision of 21st century Jewish life that embraces the plurality and diversity of the people we aspire to serve. (To attend, please contact us at jccmeeting@jccgb.org by May 28.)

Moving into a new fiscal year, the JCC is an energized and optimistic organization. We believe that helping to strengthen Jewish identity is the single most important issue to which we can contribute our time and assets, and it is a role that we take on with both humility and enthusiasm.

May our work, and your work, bear fruit in the coming year.

Chag Sameach,

Mark Sokoll

President and CEO
