If you’re my age, then the opening few seconds of this song are unmistakable.

But this isn’t a post about Dave Matthews, it’s about something that may, in fact, be way better.

Prozdor.

Before we break for February vacation I’d like to take a moment to share with you a few highlights of the upcoming few months at Prozdor.  As you know, it’s been a year of both evaluation and innovation at Prozdor, and we’re thrilled to be both continuing successful programs and launching some new ones.

This Sunday through Tuesday, over thirty students will be traveling to New York City on our annual 8th grade trip to the Big Apple.  A Broadway show, Times Square, a visit to the Chasidic Discovery Center, a visit to the Top of the Rock, and skating in Bryant Park will highlight the time in New York.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Speaking of the weather, it’s been a frigid winter in the Ukraine, but that won’t stop fourteen students from Boston, including three Prozdor students, from traveling to Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, on our Havayah program,  Along with fifteen of their peers from Haifa and fifteen more from Dnepropetrovsk to run an English-language camp at the day school there.  Our Havayah participants leave Sunday night, and will return on Wednesday, February 29.  Travel safely!

March is full of excitement at Prozdor and in the community.  We are hosting two Open Houses for prospective students, participating in the Boston Jewish Music Festival and the Israel Folkdance Festival at MIT, hosting teens from Haifa and the Diller Teen Fellowship on March 27, and welcoming visitors from the Jewish community of London on March 13.  Additionally, I will be participating in the annual Boston-Haifa Steering Committee meetings in Haifa from March 11-14 to report on the success of our Pirke Dorot partnership with the Reali School.  It’s going to be a great month!

April features our 9th grade trip to Israel with over twenty participants, Passover break, and another Open House, and plans are being finalized for our first annual Day of Service on Sunday, May 6, and our hosting of a teen leadership summit here at Hebrew College on Sunday, May 20.  We’re also excited about the annual Hebrew College dinner on Thursday, May 9.

The next few months hold great promise for us.  Our travel experiences, our classes and learning, our community involvements… these all are peaking as we start thinking about the end of the year and the warmth of summer.  It’s an exciting time to be at Prozdor, and as we begin our recruitment and re-enrollment process for 2012-13 we hope you will all have a chance to feel and experience the vibrancy of all that Prozdor has to offer.
