Last year I participated in Wanderings and Wonderings and this year I have joined the committee that shaped the program’s next iteration—Eser: Top Ten Jewish Innovations. Our committee believes that high quality and fun Jewish learning appeals to young adults. Those of us who completed Wanderings offered input that combines its great social element with an exciting educational approach.
Each Eser group will be led by a dynamic young rabbi who is excited to work with young professionals, as well as two lay leaders – most of whom, like myself, were Wanderings participants. The sessions will be held in living rooms in Brookline, Cambridge, and Newton. These sorts of adjustments promise to create cohesive, engaged, groups.
After inspiring discussions on the Top Ten Jewish Innovations (a sneak peek of which will be coming to a blog post real soon), we plan on heading over to nearby watering holes. One thing I took away from Wanderings was the special feeling of being part of a Jewish community–kind of like Birthright without the jet lag and shawarma. If you’ve ever enjoyed or would welcome this sense of belonging, I encourage you to participate.
