In the aftermath of Monday’s bombing at the Boston Marathon, you or someone you know may want to seek post-trauma resources and/or general therapy referral information. Please consult this list, thoughtfully provided by Rabbi Matt Soffer and the staff at Temple Israel of Boston.

For those in need of immediate help who feel like they may be in danger of harming themselves or others:

1) Go to your local emergency room

2) Call 911

3) Call the Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) at 1-800-981-4357. BEST provides 24/7 crisis counseling.

For Boston Marathon-related trauma:

1) Staff from Boston Centers for Youth & Families and the Boston Public Health Commission will be on hand at the City Year offices at 287 Columbus Ave. in Boston for resources and counseling. The resource center has relocated from The Castle building, also on Columbus Avenue, which has served as the center since Monday afternoon. For anyone seeking assistance by phone, call the mayor’s 24-hour hotline at 617-635-4500. To speak to a counselor by phone, call the mayor’s health line at 617-534-5050.

2) The Disaster Distress Helpline provides immediate and confidential assistance to anyone needing emotional help dealing with the blasts. Counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The helpline can be reached at 1-800-985-5990. You can also text “TalkWithUs” to 66746. The line is run by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Counselors can also provide callers with referrals and other needed support services.

3) The Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute offers free care services. They are located at 1269 Beacon St. in Brookline. They can be reached at the following numbers: 617-232-0687 and 617-232-1303. They provide trauma services to children and adult victims, as well as their families.

4) Hospitality Homes is here 365 days a year, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day to help families traveling to Boston for medical care. Thanks to volunteer hosts who open their hearts and homes to visiting families, Hospitality Homes is here to help families, friends and colleagues traveling to Boston to be with victims of the bombings. For general referrals:

1) Contact your primary care provider, health center, health insurance and/or employee health department for referrals to local outpatient therapists.

2) The Social Work Therapy Referral Service is a free, confidential, telephone referral service. They provide professional, personalized counseling referrals matched for location, specialty and insurance or fee requirements. They can be reached at 617-720-2828 or toll-free at 800-242-9794.
