The Biggest Loser wants YOU

by David Levy on behalf of JewishBoston.com / July 20, 2010

created at: 2010-07-20The NBC reality TV show The Biggest Loser is looking for its next batch of contestants, and they've reached out to us for help finding a Jew.

To be honest, I don't know that the Jewish bit is so important to them, but we received a phone call last week from one of the show's casting directors asking us to publicize their upcoming visit to Boston on our site. And since the show is one of my brother's favorites, how could I say no?

They are specifically looking for individuals or teams of two who have more than 100 pounds to lose. Contestants must be at least 18 years old (by 9/24) and legal residents of the USA. Just show up to the Seaport Hotel on July 24 between 10 am and 6 pm with a non-returnable photo of yourself (and your teammate, if applying as a pair). Click here for complete details.

If you have your heart set on being seen, it sounds like you should aim to be there early - the casting director tells me people will be allowed to line up starting at 7 am, and they will do their best to see the first 500 people in line. However, JewishBoston.com has been offered a limited number of VIP Passes which will enable you to cut in line!

To earn your spot on the VIP List, drop me an e-mail at Editor@JewishBoston.com with a healthy take on your favorite Jewish recipe by 5:00 pm on Thursday.  We'll award the VIP passes to our favorites and let you know by Friday morning.

Of course, if you do get a spot on the show, we expect to get exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews and outtakes to share here on JewishBoston.com. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Good luck!

Does anybody know why The Biggest Loser is specifically seeking Jews?

Entries are starting to arrive.  From the JewishBoston.com mailbox:

"Perhaps use a lighter oil (like Canola or Olive) for the latkes, or even bake them? I'm not a big fan of all that oil myself, but understand the reasons behind it.  This would definitely make them more heart healthy (not as much in the saturated fat dept).  I'm also a big fan of Matzoh, but prefer the whole wheat variety... So anything you can make over Passover, use a whole wheat matzoh meal instead.  That would definitely help with digestion and such..."

Keep 'em coming, folks!

Not only should you NOT audition for The Biggest Loser, you should join in boycotting the show for promoting unhealthy practices and endangering and exploiting  its contestants. Read more at Jewesses with Attitude: http://jwablog.jwa.org/boycott-the-biggst-loser

Oh boy. Going to rip something over here. Blog post on it's way.

Okay, this is ironic coming out on Tisha B'av.  You think they planned it this way?  In fact, if we all just observed the fast days, who needs the Biggest Loser anyway!
