VIDEO: G-dcast celebrates Yom Kippur with a Musical Story of Jonah
G-dcast, the outfit populating the internet with short cartoons for each Torah portion and Jewish holiday, has a new video for Yom Kippur, featuring some local talent. While The Josh Nelson Project may be based in New York City, Josh is a familiar face around these parts from his childhood in New Bedford on through more recent gigs at Temple Israel Boston, NewCAJE, and beyond. Full disclosure: I first met Josh when he was a precocious sixth-grader, winning the hearts of all the Kadima girls at a Shabbaton in Brockton, when I was a fifth-grader; we remained friends and roomed together on our first trip to Israel back in 1994. So you'll pardon me if I kvell a little bit.
The truth is, even without my kvelling, you'll see this is one of the best G-dcast videos yet. As much as I liked their rap for Rosh Hashanah, this musical retelling of the story of Jonah (tradtitionally read in synagogues on Yom Kippur afternoon) is even better.
