Some days, there is nothing that I want to do with this business (bills, ick!). And some days, there’s nothing I can do (because, you know, everything that needs to be done requires something from someone else, or skills that I don’t yet have). But mostly my days are filled with creative, energetic people who want to help turn Homegrown Judaica into a success story. I find enthusiastic offers of help all over the place. And that’s awesome. With a capital A!

In the past week alone, I’ve talked to five artists who want to post their work on HGJ and been given leads for six others to reach out to; had a friend IM with a brilliant business idea; and had three people volunteer to give their time to help us grow. One of our artists started publicizing HGJ to her listserv, and we’re sending out our first newsletter this week. And it has actually been a rather slow week.

One of my recent favorite projects has been to work on the creation of a “Ketubah 101” seminar. When thinking about a Jewish wedding, most people know (or find out from the rabbi they meet with) they need a ketubah, but not all know what it is, where to find one or how to make the tradition meaningful. The goal of this program is to put a group of recently engaged couples in the room with a wonderful rabbi and a few really talented artists. Just as the couples love each other, we want them to love the ketubah they choose and to want to display it in their home with pride. Know anyone interested in a session like this? Put them in touch!

We’ve set our sights high and are aiming to double the number of artists and pieces currently on the site by the end of April. And then we want to ramp up our marketing campaign, get people to the site and start spreading these gorgeous works of art around Boston. Want to help? Find artists and send ’em our way. Or, better yet, buy a gift for an upcoming wedding, bar mitzvah or as a thank you to the people hosting your Passover seder. Check us out at homegrownjudaica.com.
