There’s a voice that’s growing in Greater Boston’s Jewish community. It’s the voice of Koleinu, Boston’s Jewish Community Chorus, a non-audition adult chorus of people from across the spectrum of Judaism. Our community of singers comes from varied backgrounds, with different levels of musical experience, but we are united by a love of Jewish choral music and the desire to sing.  Since 2002, we’ve been carving out a new niche in Greater Boston for anyone who wants to join and share the power and beauty of Jewish music

Everybody connects to Judaism in their own way and so why not through song? At Koleinu to we want to give everybody a chance to make that connection when we start our weekly rehearsals this Thursday, Oct 7th from 7:30-9:45 at Hebrew College in Newton. We don’t ask anybody to audition and give people the opportunity to try us out at our open rehearsals on the 7th, 14th and 21st.
The chorus has grown from an initial group of 30 to over 70 members. We live varied and often hectic lives but happily make time for our Thursday night rehearsals. For some, it’s a special way to be in touch with their Jewish heritage; for others, it’s a way to satisfy their souls. As one singer recently said:

Koleinu gives me a place to be part of something beyond myself – a musical experience that is transformative. It is a place to be alone with music and at the same time part of a whole. Singing in Koleinu is one thing during my week that is really just for me….

We’ve delighted audiences in venues throughout the region, bringing our unique repertoire that ranges from Bernstein to Berlin, from niggunim to novelty, from classic to chassidic. Our mission includes joining with diverse community groups to raise funds for worthy causes,  fostering intercultural understanding, entertaining the elderly, and bringing the joy of Jewish choral music to audiences throughout our region. We’ve sung with some of the area’s finest soloists and cantors who bring added joy to our concerts.

Sing with us! Rehearsals start 10/7 at Hebrew College, 160 Herrick Rd in Newton. Directions and more info on our website: www.koleinu.org
