Celebrate National Family Literacy Day

On November 1st we celebrate National Family Literacy Day.  First held in 1994, this annual event is a spring board for great family programming at schools, libraries, and literacy organizations, with read-a-thons, celebrity appearances, book drives, and more. This month we’re celebrating by featuring two unique books about family. We encourage you to share a book within your family, be it a bedtime story, a book club or passing along a title you enjoyed.

In our selection for younger children, Big Little Mother by Kevin Kling & Chris Monroe, we meet a little boy and his big sister. She is inventive, bossy and loves to impart her knowledge. The authors beautifully illustrate the sharing and partnership between siblings and the power of these relationships. Ages  3-8 grade.

Stay tuned for our pick for older readers later this month.
