The Boston Jewish Film Festival is coming up. I wish I had more time to get to all the films that come through Boston during this festival, but alas, my wife and I are both working long hours, then we have 3 kids. So managing to find time to watch the Netflix DVD that’s been next to the TV for a month is luxury enough, never mind spending 2 hours in a darkened theater.

Still, I’m hoping to get out to at least 1 or 2 films this year. If you have a suggestion on which one please let me know.

All that being said, Rabbi Benjamin Shalva has taught classes on Jewish film, so he and I sat down for a bit to discuss what makes a Jewish film and what impact do such films have on the Jewish community.

Here’s what he had to say:

By the way, if you want to extend the disucssion with him, he has open office hours:

Mondays 6:00pm-7:30pm — @Temple Reyim
Tuesdays 11:30am-1:00pm — @Temple Reyim

Thursdays 4:30pm-6:00pm — @Starbucks in Newton Centre: http://www.starbucks.com/store/12565
