We’re four games into League Championship play in Britain, and with an almost-perfect 3-0-1 record, Brighton and Hove Albion are enjoying some early success. The Seagulls are in second place in the 24-team division, which after last season’s 20th place debacle is no small achievement.
So what’s the big deal with that? Where is Brighton anyway (here it is, FYI)? Why should we care?
Well, other than the fact that Brighton and Hove are seeking their first-ever promotion to the Premier League in this campaign, there’s the fact that they are regularly fielding two Israelis, Beram Kayal and Tomer Hemed, in the starting lineup.
Both players have already made important contributions in the first several games. On August 18, Kayal scored 17 seconds into the match against Huddersfield, netting the only goal in Albion’s 1:1 draw, and three days earlier, Hemed scored in the 93rd minute on a PK to claim a 2:1 victory at Craven Cottage against Fulham. Big goals, indeed.

Four games into the season it couldn’t be going much better for the Seagulls, who are just one goal out of first place on goal difference. Next up is a Capital One Cup match against Wilsall tomorrow evening.
I’m still considering which jersey I like best; which one do you prefer? The blue-and-white stripes? The electric yellow? The red third jersey? Tell you what- I’d love to see Hemed and Kayal wearing those kits next year on Saturday mornings on NBC. That’s something we can all be rooting for.
