created at: 2014-04-09Passover 2014 hits homes this Monday, and aside from seders and matzah, movies are a great way to get in the holiday spirit. If you just Google it you’ll find many Passover movie suggestions—here are my top five to get you into the Festival of Freedom mindset.

The Prince of Egypt” (1998)
This animated film tops every list for obvious reason—there can be miracles when you believe! Brush up on the story of the Exodus with an all-star lineup of voices, DreamWorks animation and homage to the late, great Whitney Houston. Val Kilmer voices Moses and God; now there’s a conversation starter.

A Rugrats Passover” (1995)
An oldie but goodie. If you’re feeling nostalgic recapping our 3,000-year-old story, this will hit the spot. And who doesn’t love Angelica as Pharaoh?!

The Ten Commandments” (1956)
Classics are classics. If you haven’t seen this one that made Charlton Heston most famous, make this your moment.

12 Years a Slave” (2013)
Speaking of slavery, this Academy Award Best Picture winner will get you thinking about the value of life and freedom. It’s a bit heavy, but a solid twist on a real story.

Team America: World Police” (2004)
Passover is all about telling stories of freedom, which is exactly what this brainchild of Trey Parker and Matt Stone does. It may not be direct, but it’s comedic genius and will for sure get you talking about global issues and freedom!

Watch and talk amongst yourselves. Happy Passover!
