Chosen Eats: Dipped Ice Cream Cones

There are lots of ways to dress up ice cream. You can drizzle it with caramel or hot fudge, or roll it in a magic chocolate shell or any number of toppings. But the cone—the loyal vehicle that keeps your hands away from the sticky sweet on a hot summer day—is usually left as-is. Yes, plain ice cream cones are a good foil to the ice cream when left untouched, but when you want to dress up your cone, all you need is some chocolate and any topping you’d put on your ice cream.

Dipped Ice Cream Cones

Makes 8 cones

8 ice cream cones
¾ cup chopped chocolate (milk, white or semisweet)

Toppings

These are just ideas. Be creative!

Flaked coconut
Candy, frozen until firm, then chopped
Oreos, chopped
Graham crackers, chopped

Place toppings in shallow bowls or plates. Line large dinner plate with parchment paper. In microwave-safe bowl, heat chocolate until completely melted. Stir until smooth. Invert cone into bowl with melted chocolate and roll edges until evenly covered. Remove from bowl and let excess chocolate drip back into bowl. Immediately dip in topping and roll until chocolate is completely covered. Transfer to parchment-lined plate and refrigerate until firm. Scoop ice cream into cones and serve.
