Four Questions with Ariella Darvish, Model

by Molly Parr / September 16, 2012

Ariella DarvishWhen she's not hitting the books at Boston University, undergrad Ariella Darvish is on modeling gigs and can be found strolling through waterfalls and riding horses. We checked in with the leggy co-ed to find out more about balancing classes and the catwalk.

How did you start modeling?

My mother somehow convinced my tomboy 13-year-old self to take acting/modeling classes at John Robert Powers school in downtown Boston. I ended up really loving practicing poses and walking down the pretend runway, so I went to an open casting call for an agency in Boston and they agreed to represent me and book jobs for me.

What's been your favorite experience/best shoot you've been on?
A recent shoot with Improper Bostonian. The shoot took place on Mount Washington and was featured in the magazine as a five-page spread. What I enjoyed so much about it was the combination of fashion and nature. I walked on rocks over waterfalls, stood on the edge of a cliff, tried to catch fish in a pond, and even got to pose laying on a horse!

How do you deal with being a student at Boston University and finding time to  model?
Juggling school and work is tough for any college student. Unfortunately, being a full-time student eliminates many potential jobs because I can't afford to miss class to attend casting calls for possible jobs. I determine what is worth missing school for depending on how much the job pays or the amount of exposure the job could potentially give me as a model.

What's the most expensive thing you've ever worn for a shoot?

I'm pretty sure it was a $2,000 handbag that I was told to swing over rushing water, which I remember being quite stressful because any cost for damaged goods would most likely come out of my paycheck!
