An Article of Hope is an award-winning film about the remarkable true story of Colonel Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut and the tiny Torah he carried into space. The movie will be shown at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton on Tuesday, May 3 at 7pm. The documentary tells the Torah’s journey, from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp to the day it was celebrated aboard the space shuttle Columbia. It is a unique story that interweaves the heights of scientific achievement, the depths of a nation’s cruelty, the private grief of a boy who came of age during the Holocaust, and the public mourning of many nations in the aftermath of the Columbia shuttle disaster. Combining historical and ethical inquiry, the film reaches across faiths and nationalities to tell a truly human story. A post-show discussion will take place with either the producer or director. Cost is $10. You can purchase tickets at www.jccgb.org/arts or contact 617-965-5226 or boxoffice@jccgb.org
