Jewish National Fund to host Guardian of Israel Award Breakfast to Honor local philanthropists

September 10, 2013 — Boston, MA — Jewish National Fund (JNF) will host its annual New England Guardian of Israel Award Breakfast at the Newton Marriott on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. The event will honor Robert Abrams, Principal Attorney at Robert T. Abrams J.D., and Robert Cohan, founding partner of Cohan Rasnick Myerson LLP. The breakfast and program will begin at 7:45 am.

Proceeds from the Guardian of Israel Award Breakfast will benefit JNF’s work with Be’er Sheva River Park Lake, the largest metropolitan park in Israel located in Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev. Through its Blueprint Negev initiative, JNF recognized the development and expansion of Be’er Sheva as the key to making the Negev an attractive place for a new generation of Israelis to call home. The centerpiece of JNF’s efforts in Be’er Sheva is the development of the 1,300-acre Be’er Sheva River Park, an innovative urban renewal project, modeled on the famous San Antonio River Walk and similar environmental reclamation projects, becoming an anchor for tourism and commerce and is transforming Be’er Sheva into a green, vibrant, modern city.

“I saw Be’er Sheva when it was a developing city as residents move away because of the lack of public facilities,” said Cohan. “As soon as JNF stepped in, Be’er Sheva became a booming city and I see so many families, children, and teenagers flocking to the River Park to enjoy something that is part of their town. Residents are forming lives in Be’er Sheva and today the economy of the city is better than ever thanks to JNF.”

The Guardian of Israel Award is a humanitarian award given in recognition of outstanding community involvement, dedication to the cause of American-Israeli friendship, and devotion to peace and security of human life. Award recipients Robert Abrams and Robert Cohan are esteemed attorneys and JNF Boston Presidents Emeriti. They have shown outstanding commitment to the land of Israel and its people, and have helped JNF rise to new levels of recognition and awareness through their dedication.

“The tireless efforts of Robert Abrams and Robert Cohan, from their recruitment efforts to the leadership they bring into the organization, created an extremely positive and cohesive group of major JNF supporters,” said Sara Hefez, Director of New England. “JNF is fortunate to have such special leaders. Their dedication and support will not only continue development of Be’er Sheva, but for the Israel and its people.”

“It is an honor to receive such prestigious award and especially from Jewish National Fund,” said Abrams. “It’s amazing to see the work that JNF has done for Israel and watching Be’er Sheva grow because of the support behind JNF is unbelievable.”

The breakfast will take place at Newton Marriott Hotel at 2345 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, MA. For sponsorship opportunities or more information, please contact Sara Hefez at (617) 423-0999 x811 or shefez@jnf.org. To RSVP, email RSVPNE@jnf.org.
