Last Sunday, May 15, Betty Goldberg, our Curriculum Coordinator, had the privilege of attending the second annual Jewish Day School Regional Science Fair Exposition at Gann Academy in Waltham. MWJDS had five eager participants display and share their scientific knowledge. The Expo is supported by CJP and the Gelfand Family Trust, whose mission is to support activities that promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects, excite and inspire students with hands on experiential learning, and encourage students to explore their own hypotheses.

Betty was able to speak to a variety of students from different day schools and different grades, and was struck by how passionate each student was about their project, how articulate they were in explaining the various ways they went about conducting their experiments.

These students are our future. Our science program provides opportunities for students to develop understandings and skills necessary to function productively as problem-solvers in a scientific and technological world. MWJDS has made a commitment to provide more opportunities in the coming years for its students to fully participate in STEM learning and projects.

Thank you to HaMorah Elana for all her time and energy in preparing our students for both our in house Science Fair and the Expo. She has been tireless in her efforts to foster and create a love of science among students and staff.
