February 2 Open House to Showcase Accomplishments of Individuals with Challenges  

The Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston (JCC, bostonjcc.org) will commemorate Disability Awareness Month with an Open House showcasing the accomplishments of men and women with physical, mental health and cognitive challenges.  The event, to be held at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC, 333 Nahanton Street, Newton from 10am-5pm on Thursday, February 2, is open to the public and includes:
-Screenings of INCLUDING SAMUEL, the award-winning documentary by photojournalist Dan Habib (11am, 12:30pm, 2pm, 3:30pm)
-Service dog demonstration with Boston Marathon® runner and Newton resident Barbara Lischinsky
-Art of Newton resident Neri Avraham and Stoughton resident Jason Mitchell, through February 6
-Information tables sponsored by JCC Special Needs Services, Early Learning Centers, Camping, and Health and Fitness; also, Gateways: Access to Jewish Education and Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters
“Welcome and inclusion are core Jewish values and are at the heart of the JCC’s philosophy,” said Mark Sokoll, JCC President/CEO. “This event showcases the accomplishments and challenges of individuals, allowing us to appreciate their abilities while better understanding their challenges. This is what brings us all closer together and creates a sense of community.”
