In conjunction with their 10th Anniversary concert, Koleinu will present a Meet the Composer Forum at 7:30pm at Hebrew College in Newton Centre where Osnat Netzer, Koleinu’sArtistic Director Carol Marton, and chorus members will discuss the unique approach to creating and preparing Sound the Great Shorfar. The forum is funded in part with a grant from New Music USA’s MetLife Creative Connections program, and is free and open to the public.

Netzer’s goal in writing Sound the Great Shofar was to incorporate the vision and spirit of Koleinu  marking its first decade as a Jewish musical community. The work’s original text was created in part by her interviews with individual Koleinu members about their participation in the chorus. Members were also invited to submit their own writing and favorite texts from their rich cultural heritage. The final piece includes original text in English juxtaposed with sacred texts in Hebrew, andis scored for mixed chorus, treble chorus, clarinet, cello, piano and drum.

Join us and Meet the Composer.
