Jews Buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery

September 7, 2014 $7.00 - $12.00

Join Volunteer Docent Helen Abrams on a walk to visit the famous (Felix Frankfurter, Bernard Malamud, and Edwin Land, among others) and not-so-famous Jews buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Learn why the 19th and early 20th century Jews chose Mount Auburn instead of a traditional Jewish Cemetery. Since no Cemetery records were kept of religious preference, how are scholars and researchers identifying people of Jewish descent? How does Mount Auburn accommodate Jewish burial practices? This walk will cover a lot of ground, so wear your walking shoes!
