1942, the Reich dispatched a crew of German soldiers to film Jewish life in the Warsaw Ghetto. Mysteriously, the propaganda film was never finished and the silent, unedited reels lay hidden for more than 50 years. Then along came Yael Hersonski, a young Israeli documentary maker (32) whose own grandmother had survived the Warsaw Ghetto. After gaining access to the long abandoned footage, Hersonski wrote and directed A Film Unfinished, a staggering 90 minute documentary of the atrocities of life in the Warsaw Ghetto as filmed by the Nazis themselves.
The film will be introduced by Professor Kevin Madigan, the Winn Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Harvard Divinity School. In addition to teaching in the area of ecclesiastical history, Professor Madigan teaches courses on the Holocaust to students in the College and graduate schools of Harvard.
