Dr. Okby is a trailblazer and role model for Bedouin women in Israel. Dr. Okby graduated from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in 2004 and was supported by the Robert H. Arnow Center for Bedouin Studies and Development at the University, established in 1997. The center provides scholarships and support services for Bedouin students, with an emphasis on women.
