Kabbalat Shabbat with Jonathan Soroff

Join us for our monthly Kabbalat Shabbat celebration at the historic Vilna Shul. This April we welcome Imporper Bostonian features writer Jonathan Soroff as our very special guest speaker.Festivities begin with wine and appetizers on the main floor at 6:30. We head upstairs to the sanctuary for an egalitarian Shabbat service led by members of our community, followed by a discussion with our honored guest speakers, before finally heading back downstairs for a laid-back, inviting kosher buffet dinner.Schedule of Events:6:30 PM Wine and Appetizers7:00 PM Shabbat Services8:15 PM Discussion with our Featured Speaker, Jonathan Soroff8:45 PM Kosher Buffet Shabbat Dinner(vegetarian and gluten free options available)

Getting to the Vilna Shul:
Free validated parking is always available for Havurah on the Hill’s monthly Shabbat celebrations at the Charles River Garage (165 Cambridge Street next to the Au Bon Pain). The Vilna Shul is also easily accessible by public transportation. Take the MBTA Red Line to Charles/MGH. About our Special Guest Speaker:
Jonathan Soroff was born and raised in Newton, where he still lives with his better half, Sam Mazzarelli. After graduating from Duke University in 1987, Soroff went to work for the Boston Herald and eventually became the nightlife/lifestyle trends columnist. For the past 24 years, he has been the lead columnist for the Improper Bostonian Magazine, where he writes the social column and a celebrity interview in every issue and contributes features throughout the year.

He is the author of the novel “Crimes of Fashion,” has written for everyone from People to Instinct to the Royal Academy Magazine (London), and does extensive travel writing for national and international publications. He is the creator of the blog www.itsmylifegetyourown.com and co-hosts a radio show, Status Report, on Boston Herald Radio.

He serves on the board of directors of the NET Research Foundation and the advisory board of the Trustees of the Reservations, is an overseer of the Boston Ballet and a corporator of Beaver Country Day School. His favorite color is purple.

About Havurah on the Hill:
Havurah on the Hill (HOH) is a non-denominational, egalitarian minyan for Jews in their 20s and 30s in the Boston area. HOH meets at the Vilna Shul in Beacon Hill, one of the last remaining synagogues from the early 20th century wave of Jewish immigration and hosts monthly Kabbalat Shabbat services as well as other special holiday celebrations throughout the year.
