What Blessing do you make on a Sewing Machine?

(Population of Anatekva to Rabbi upon seeing the first sewing machine to come to their village, Fiddler on the Roof, 1971)

How does Judaic theology understand and relate to new technologies that changes the very terms upon which we relate to our world and each other?

We will explore:
• Did the Torah anticipate rapid and revolutionary technological change?

• Does Judaism have mechanisms for assimilating and contextualizing these changes?

• Is the development of certain new technologies fundamental to Judaism’s sense of its own development?
