AJC Boston and the Massachusetts Board of Rabbis are sponsoring Mobilization Against Global Anti-Semitism Shabbat, a community-wide initiative to educate, raise awareness, and provide opportunities to take action in New England to combat global anti-Semitism. The designated Shabbat is December 11-12, and to date, 11 synagogues across Massachusetts will participate, with more expected to join (see list below).

“Anti-Semitism in Europe and around the globe is escalating,” said AJC Boston Director Robert Leikind. “The New England Jewish community, along with our friends and neighbors, can do more to raise awareness of this pernicious phenomenon. Mobilization Against Global Anti-Semitism Shabbat is an opportunity to share educational resources, and take concrete actions, such as contacting congressional representatives and municipal leaders, to combat global anti-Semitism.”

Mobilization Against Anti-Semitism Shabbat falls during Hanukkah, a holiday that commemorates the ancient Judeans’ miraculous historic victory over an ancient form of anti-Jewish intolerance. It also immediately follows International Human Rights Day on December 10. On that day, an AJC full-page ad will appear in the Boston Globe, Jewish Advocate, Jewish Journal, and Shalom Magazine praising mayors across New England for joining Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism, a global AJC initiative to rally support for efforts to combat anti-Semitism.

AJC Boston is the local gateway to AJC’s global advocacy network, which includes over 30 offices around the world. AJC advocates for the well-being of Israel and Jews around the globe, and promotes human rights and democratic values for all.
