Ms. Shaynah M. Barnes at free MLK Luncheon

Temple Beth Emunah’s Brotherhood and Sisterhood in conjunction with area Churches, Eastern Bank and Stop & Shop, invites everyone to join us at the 19th annual free kosher luncheon to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, January 18, at 1:15 PM. The Keynote Speaker will be Ms. Shaynah M. Barnes.

Ms. Shaynah M. Barnes was elected to be the first African-American female City Councilor-at-Large, by the residents of the City of Brockton, on November 2013.

Shaynah attended and graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School and went on to receive her B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in 1999. In 2000, Shaynah returned to Northeastern University for post graduate studies in Justice Administration.

Over her career, Shaynah has been active in various capacities with several professional and civic organizations, including the Office of Judicial Affairs at Northeastern University as Chief Hearing Justice, the Brockton Democratic City Committee and was the elected representative for the City of Brockton at the 2010 Democratic Convention as a voting delegate. In 2012, Shaynah was elected to represent the 8th District at the National Democratic Convention.

Councilor Barnes was born in Washington, DC, but was raised and currently resides in Brockton, Massachusetts..
