Rosalie Katchen Memorial Lecture

September 8, 2015

Each fall, Ma’ayan is proud to present the Rosalie Katchen Memorial Lecture, in memory of our friend and former Board member, Rosalie Katchen, A”H. It is free and open to all members of the community.

Keynote Speaker: Rabbi Dr. Meir Sendor

Rabbi Dr. Meir Sendor has been the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Sharon, MA for over three decades. A student of the late Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, he received his ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. He received his Doctorate in Medieval Jewish History from Harvard University, under the late Professor Isadore Twersky. He is a recognized scholar in the field of Jewish History, specifically the history of Jewish mysticism, philosophy and medicine, and lectures widely to a variety of audiences.

About Rosalie Katchen:
Rosalie joined Ma’ayan’s Board of Directors shortly after Ma’ayan was founded. She brought a broad view of Judaic scholarship, nurtured through her years as the Hebraica librarian at Brandeis University. In her personal life, Rosalie was equally passionate about women’s involvement in Jewish learning and in the synagogue. Rosalie organized the Shaarei Tefillah library and served as its official librarian for many years. She is remembered as a person who could be called upon to present creative divrei Torah on any occasion, and who would assist her friends and community members in their personal learning. For Rosalie Katchen, Jewish learning was not an academic exercise.
