Secrets of Dawn

April 14, 2015

Please join us for Secrets of Dawn, a pop-up installation that will explore the experience of Dawn and the cultural riches of the Middle East. Part of the Floating Tower series directed by EWCJS composer-in-residence Matti Kovler, Secrets of Dawn brings together Jewish, Persian, Greek, and Indian music and text to celebrate the sacred rituals of dawn.

The culminating event in the collaborative residency with Parham Haghighi (Iran) and Deepti Navaratna (India), the musical installation will include vocal performances, a drumming circle, a reading of special Dawn poetry written by prisoners from the Norfolk Men’s Prison, video-art and special lighting by John Powell (Light Into Space).

The musical happening will take place at the BU Ellipse, a round-shaped acoustic lobby of one of BU’s main dining halls at 100 Bay State Road. The evening is a meditation on the nature of dawn, inviting professional musicians and BU students to collaborate on vocal and instrumental performances, poetry readings, and original video-art. Supported by the Jewish Cultural Endowment and presented in collaboration with Jewish Music Theater, the event is free and open to the public.

Event Location: BU Ellipse
100 Bay State Road, Boston, MA, 02215
