Shira Yoga is a weekly class at Down Under Yoga in Brookline that integrates movement, Jewish texts, and intricate global Jewish music. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful, sustained culture of Jews from North Africa, the Middle East, India, and beyond–this class will provide a flexible space for yogis of all levels to explore the richness of Jewish creativity and spirituality through the body.

TEACHERS
Adina Allen is in her final year of studies in Hebrew College Rabbinical School’s transdenominational training program and is a Wexner Graduate Fellow. Her passion lies at the intersection of Judaism, ecology, and creativity. After training for three years under Justine Wiltshire Cohen, founder of Down Under Yoga in Boston, Adina received her yoga teacher certification from Kripalu. In 2009 she co-founded the Movement Minyan at Hebrew College, in which participants explore elements of traditional Jewish prayer through the body.
Julie Newman is a singer-songwriter, cantorial soloist, and Jewish worship leader. Currently a full-time cantorial student in the School of Jewish Music at Hebrew College, Julie has also participated in the Cantor’s Cohort and the Torah Yoga Teacher Training Program at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality.
PARTNERS
Shira Yoga is a collaboration between Down Under Yoga, Piyut North America and New Center NOW. This program was made possible in part by a grant from the Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
