Norma Levine of Chestnut Hill will be honored by Israel Bonds and Temple Emeth at the “Temple Emeth Celebrates Israel Bonds” evening. The program, which encourages investment in the land, people and technology of Israel, will feature a dessert reception, musical celebration by Norma Levine and Friends, and a tribute by Temple Emeth’s Rabbi Alan Turetz.

“Norma Levine’s social conscience, personal compassion, remarkable artistic gifts and courageous zeal on behalf of the State of Israel have rewarded us movingly and memorably,” stated Rabbi Turetz. “To help others is one of her central ideals, and one that has been greatly inspired by the example of many special people at Temple Emeth. Whether exercising one of her many talents, assisting someone in need or gathering others to do the same, Norma excels.”

Special guest speaker with be Rabbi Aaron Fine, Executive Director of UMass Hillel, who will discuss  the mission of Hillel, the challenges of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, and how he works with college administration to create a safe and open campus for Jewish students.

A gifted musician, Norma Levine is Temple Emeth’s longtime musical composer and lyricist. Her group Norma Levine and Friends performs original musical tributes for Temple events, including Israel Bonds evenings.

A strong supporter of Israel, Levine is an active member of Christians and Jews United for Israel (CJUI). She has served on the Executive Board and as Treasurer and has been Musical Director since CJUI’s inception. In 2011 she was honored with a CJUI Genesis Award for “Courageous leadership and enduring love of Israel.”

A Brookline native, Levine has a bachelor’s degree from Boston University in Music Theory/Composition and a master’s degree from New England Conservatory in Jazz Composition. She has taught piano and music theory at the Conservatory’s Extension Division, several colleges and schools as well as in her private studio. In addition to performing at Temple Emeth, where she is a member, Norma Levine has been featured in musical performances at other synagogues and colleges, Boston Repertory Theater, Charles Playhouse and Boston’s Hampshire House.
