Celebrate Shabbat in a space of ritual, song, warmth and food that is by and for trans and gender nonconforming people and their guests. Services are egalitarian, participatory and led by a trans and gender nonconforming Keshet members in a style of their choosing. Please bring a vegetarian dish, dessert or beverage to share for our potluck dinner; label items with potential allergens. We’ll be providing a few kosher dishes.

Here is a little about this Shabbat’s Service Leader:
Itai is a resident organizer at Moishe Kavod House, a Jewish social justice community. He is also a singer-songwriter and Jewish educator studying for a Masters degree in Jewish education. Itai will be leading in a traditional egalitarian full-liturgy style with gender-diverse G!d language inspired by Havurat Shalom and the Renewal movement, and using both familiar and new tunes.

Services 6:30 pm
D’var (Sermon) 7:45 pm
Dinner 8:00 pm

Some background: The idea for this Shabbat was born out of the planning team that worked on the Keshet Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil. The trans and gender nonconforming members of the planning team wanted to create an intentional space to gather in community as trans Jews that wasn’t around loss, but rather around celebrating the many ways we exist vibrantly in the Jewish community. They wanted a space to gather for the sake of community isn’t been lifted up in the ways it deserves. This Trans Shabbat is intended to be that space.

In order to hold to the intention set by the planning team, cis folks are asked to support this effort by attending only at the invitation of a trans and/or gender non-conforming person and by helping to get the word out. There will also be a queer Keshet Shabbat in February, stay tuned for more on that.

Wheelchair accessible, MBTA accessible, kosher food and all-gender bathrooms.
