Were you ever curious about those spicy Yiddish expressions your grandmother used?  Ever feel that certain Yiddish words just can’t be translated?  Here’s your chance to enter the world of this delicious language. Learn Yiddish reading, conversation skills, and elementary grammar. This class will suit you whether you’re totally new to Yiddish or you already know a few basics. Familiarity with the Hebrew alphabet is recommended; students who don’t yet know the alphabet will be asked to come to class a half hour early for the first few sessions. Songs, games, and multi-media materials will be introduced to keep the class lively and fun.

Max Edwards is originally from Minnesota and has been teaching Yiddish for three years in places as familiar as the Boston Workmen’s Circle and as far off as Vilnius, Lithuania. He is currently in his second year of a Masters in Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School, focusing on Jewish Studies and Bible. He’s been in Somerville for a year now and is looking forward to being part of the B’nai B’rith community.
