When planning the menu for the Leonard Florence Center, Food Service Director Michelle Donovan and I take many things into consideration, the most important being the food preferences of our residents. We speak with the residents on a regular basis to determine their favorite foods and holiday treats. Additionally, we solicit feedback from the shahbazim to find out which meals are the most popular among residents.

An important element in the fall/winter menu is the incorporation of all of the delicious fresh fruits and vegetables the season has to offer. This includes butternut and acorn squash, brussel sprouts, turnip and sweet potatoes, to name a few. We also use a variety of apples for baking pies and making apple crisps—a Leonard Florence Center favorite among residents and staff.

During the colder months, residents seem to favor robust stews and soups. Our chefs prepare a varied selection, chock-full of seasonal vegetables to make them hearty and nutritious. Year round, we have a wonderful baker who consistently makes mouth-watering home-made baked goods, whether it’s a warm pumpkin muffin with breakfast, brownie or cookies for snacks during the day, or a delicious dessert to accompany dinner.

At the Leonard Florence Center, we like to think we have the best recipes in town because many have been shared by our own residents and staff throughout the years. No matter the season, something delectable is always cooking in our kitchens.

Remember to eat healthy during the holidays and enjoy the wonderful bounty of fresh, seasonal foods. Bon Appétit!
