Jody Comins Named President of MWJDS Board

Framingham resident Jody Comins has been named President of the Board of Directors of the MetroWest Jewish Day School in Framingham.  

Comins, Israel Activism Outreach Coordinator for Combined Jewish Philanthropies, is the first MetroWest Jewish Day School parent to hold this position.  

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Behzad Dayanim, our new head of school, as we continue to grow,” said Comins.  

Comins has been active with the K – 8 community day school, since its founding 10 years ago and has been involved in Jewish communal service as a professional and as a volunteer for over 20 years.

“We are a close community of families, students, teachers, staff, volunteers and donors,” Comins said in her speech at the school’s annual meeting in June.

“Each student who comes through our school takes the knowledge they’ve been given in their own unique direction.  This is the most fundamental purpose of education – encouraging intellectual and emotional independence.  MetroWest Jewish Day School is proud to have educators that do this so well.”  

As MetroWest Jewish Day School parents,  “My husband and I are amazed at the conversations we have at home with our daughters about Jewish and secular subjects.  We also appreciate that every adult at the school knows every child, and that students learn to be critical thinkers.  They are being prepared for the future and to be thoughtful, kind and caring people,” Comins concluded.

Comins holds an M.S.W. from Boston University and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.   Prior to working at CJP, she held positions as Director of Fieldwork for the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University, Program Director at the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, and Director of Student Activities at B.U. Hillel.  

She is both a founder of the school and a founding Board Member. Most recently serving as the school’s Vice-President for Community and Education.  For the past three years Comins coordinated the Boston component of the Adam Science Foundation Leadership Program of the UJIA/London Federation, which brings young Jewish leaders from London to learn about Boston’s Jewish community. As a 2009 Nachum Goldmann Fellow in Israel, Comins had the opportunity to meet with Jewish leaders from all over the world.  She has lived in Framingham for 14 years with husband Mike Schnur and daughters Talia and Elizabeth, who will enter grades seven and four at the school in the fall.
