created at: 2010-06-28Game Warriors  is a course taught through Maimonides’s After School Program by BU professor (and Maimo parent) Dr. Ari Trachtenberg for 3rd to 7th graders. The class involves designing and building a customized version of the popular “breakout” arcade game, in which a ball bounces around a screen hitting bricks for points. Students learn some basic analytic geometry, experiment with the laws of (animation) physics, and ultimately build their own computer game by writing real Java code (based on an instructor-supplied template).

The final projects from this spring’s class have now been posted on the school website! Click here to see and play games created by Maimonides fourth-graders Ezra, Esther, Eliezer and Benni, fifth-grader Aaron, and sixth-grader Shlomo.

Even though summer is here, the extracurricular fun keeps going at Maimo this week with the first sessions of the alumni-run M-Cat Sports Camp, as well as Ms. M’s Science Camp run by our science teacher extraordinaire, Ms. Katie Muratore. Hope everyone’s having a great summer!
