On Sunday April 3, the JGSGB Bessarabia Special Interest Group (SIG) listened to an informal presentation by SIG member Gilda Bruckman. She introduced SIG members to a cemetery mapping project in process.  Her objective is to transpose data from the JewishGen Bessarabia-Moldova Cemetery Project into an interactive Google map. The map will enable family history researchers to see at a glance how complete the research is for each cemetery’s data, as well as the location of each cemetery with a link to the JewishGen data for that cemetery.

The local Bessarabia SIG is for members of JGSGB with Jewish roots in the region historically known as Bessarabia, a former Gubernia (province) in the Russian Empire, which is now in the Republic of Moldova with two small parts in Ukraine. The group also covers Transnistria (Pridnestovie) / Republic of Moldova, a self-proclaimed territory on the left bank of Dniester River.
