Mcreated at: 2010-09-14any gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Jews feel forced to abandon meaningful ties to Jewish life, but under the leadership of Idit Klein, Keshet is changing that reality. Keshet is moving the Jewish community towards a deeper understanding of what it means to truly support and include all Jews – no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Idit developed Keshet out of a spare room in her apartment, transforming it from a tiny local grassroots group into a robust national organization with 10 staff and an innovative model for creating change in Jewish life. As Keshet’s Executive Director since 2001, Idit has brought the needs and interests of GLBT Jews and our families to the mainstream Jewish world by speaking at Jewish venues, facilitating trainings around the country, presenting at national Jewish conferences, and frequently interviewing with the press. Idit has also taken on leadership in the increasingly robust GLBT Jewish non-profit sector such as coordinating an organized Jewish presence at October’s National Equality March in Washington, DC and assisting with the first-ever LGBT Jewish Movement-Building Convening in California.

You can help Idit become this year’s Jewish Community Hero and get Keshet one step closer to winning $25,000 – that will go a long way to creating a Jewish community that includes all of us!
