Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston
The JGSGB is dedicated to helping people discover their Jewish family history. We offer monthly educational programs and a comprehensive beginners' course, maintain an extensive collection of research materials, and publish the award-winning journal, Mass-Pocha. We are a non-profit organization with an active membership of over 500.
We hold monthly meetings on Sunday afternoons, usually in Newton, that are open to anyone, free to members and $5 for non-members. These meetings are posted on the JewishBoston calendar a month in advance.
JEWISH GENEALOGY NIGHTS AT NEHGS The American Jewish Historical Society, New England Archives (AJHS) is housed at the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS). Members of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston are available at the AJHS reference desk on the 5th floor of NEHGS, 99-101 Newbury Street, Boston, between 6-8 pm on the following Wednesday nights: FEB 13, FEB 27, MAR 13, APR 3. We're here to help new and experienced genealogists research their family histories, answer questions, troubleshoot “brick walls,” and identify resources. Please call 617-226-1245 by 3 pm on the day BEFORE you want to come in, so we can make sure we have enough people on hand to help everyone.
The international conference on Jewish genealogy is coming to Boston in 2013, Aug 4-9, at the Park Plaza Hotel. We need lots of VOLUNTEERS – for planning tasks now — and for helping out at the conference itself. Please sign up to help with this huge, important, and exciting undertaking. And…give us your IDEAS — about educational programs, speakers, entertainers, .... You can read about it -- and volunteer -- here (www.jgsgb.org/conf2013/).
