For many working parents, the work-life “balance” we often hear about seems like a myth. It’s more like the work-life compromise, or juggle. Juggling a career and parenting presents various challenges, many of which aren’t frequently discussed. So when Boston mom and author Michelle Cove started researching this rocky terrain for her new book, “I Love Mondays: And Other Confessions from Devoted Working Moms,” she wanted to get women talking about the struggles they face in order to recommend strategies to help alleviate some of the stress—and to let them know they aren’t alone.

As fans of Michelle’s book, we invited her to our offices to chat with three other local working moms about the work-parent juggle and the issues they face. We are so pleased to share these clips with you—they cover everything from why these women enjoy their jobs to ways in which their synagogue communities play an important role and what date night with their spouses looks like now.

The video features, from left, Julie Unger, who has a 2-year-old son (and is expecting a baby girl any day!) and is a consultant for Jewish non-profits; Michelle Cove, who has an 8-year-old daughter and is editor of 614: the HBI ezine, an online magazine for Jewish women; Cheryl Stober, who has a 5-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter and works as a vice president and product analyst at an investment firm (and blogs at busysincebirth.com); and Rebecca Smerling, who has a 3-year-old daughter and is director of programs and community outreach at the Boston Harbor Island Alliance.
