Do you care about social change? What about the development of young leaders? Do you want to cross the barriers of race, class and neighborhood?

Then show your support by joining TELEM teens as they participate in YMORE (Youth of Massachusetts Organizing for a Reformed Economy) at its Youth Accountability Action on May 23rd from 5-7pm at Temple Israel Boston

Why should you get involved? Well here’s an account from Jesse Weiss, a 12th grader at Beth El Temple Center in Belmont  about why this experience has meant so much.

For months we have been listening, researching, deciding and preparing, and now it is time to move in. It feels good to take action after months of meetings and making sure that the steps we would take would be the right ones. Stepping into our local legislators’ offices to lobby and build relationships is the culmination of our organizing work, and putting our knowledge and preparation to work is an incredible feeling. One of the trickiest things about action, in any form, is predicting the outcome. Walking in to a legislative meeting, we always know what we want to say, how we want to say it and what we want to get out of the meeting. What we don’t know is what the reaction will be. After planning for so long, we need to be successful – whether in the office, at a rally, or on stage to celebrate the end of our listening campaign. In the end, the only measures of our successes are in the results and the things we learn. As we move deeper into the action phase of our spring campaign, the stakes will only be raised, and we will see if all of our listening and preparation will make a difference.
