The Chanukah story took place in Israel many years ago. It is a story of a small group of Maccabees who defeated the strong Greeks, and the BIG miracle of a small jug of oil that lasted for eight days, lighting the menorah in the temple in Jerusalem.
Boston Israel Group’s definition of the holiday:
Holiday of lights, AKA an excuse to eat latkes and sufganiot (jelly donuts).
But what does the word “Chanukah” mean?
“Chanukah” means “dedication” – it’s the same word that we use for house warming, chanukaht bayit. After the Maccabees purified the temple and lit the candles, they dedicated it.
BIG – Boston Israel Group is proud to co-sponsor Lights and Strikes Chanukah Party on 12/22 and JBALL – The Chosen Party on 12/24.
