The not-too-bright folks in the mythical town of Chelm often need some direction.

Chaim from Chelm and His Chanukiyah

Poor, confused Chaim from Chelm,

Every year he was overwhelmed.

He couldn’t remember which candles to light–

“Do I add from the left and light from the right?”

So he told himself, “Now’s a good time,

To make up a Chanukah rhyme.”

Light from the left and add from the right,

And so we remember the Maccabees’ might.

Now feeling quite proud of himself,

Taking his chanukiyah from the shelf,

He said, “I’m ready for Chanukah tonight–

I just wish I knew my left from my right!”
