Hello, my name is Adam Hopkins and I am an attorney at Looney & Grossman LLP located in Downtown Crossing. But, perhaps more importantly, I am a husband and father of two young children. Seeing a need to ensure that my children were properly protected should something happen to me, and curious to know what exactly Jewish law may or may not say on the matter, I took it upon myself to study what Judaism teaches us on the subject.
Surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) there is a great wealth of knowledge and opinion to allow individuals and couples to merge Jewish law and traditions with modern estate plans. Through the use of some intriguing devices, it is possible to imbue a will or estate plan with your Jewish heritage. Of course, I see many benefits: the practical of what happens to my stuff, creating a sense of Jewish values in the home, etc. I am curious to know if there is interest out there for a discussion on the matter as I would love to share what I learned.
