Announcing the “beta” release of the newly-overhauled “Bentshmarking” spreadsheet “MIPL-JCAN Carbon Calculator for Houses of Worship.” For years, JCAN has trained green teams in how to use this tool to calculate the carbon footprint of their synagogue facility. For those interested in the newly revised version, join us. We will walk through the new version and ask folks to download, try it and report back any issues or questions. We hope to make the spreadsheet generally available after this beta version is fully validated.

Some features of the updated spreadsheet:

As before, works with the simple input of at least one year’s worth of utility consumption data (old data can easily be pasted in)
As before, calculates carbon footprint of the facility from oil, gas and electricity propane usage
Allows for use anywhere in the United States and Canada
Accommodates for on-site solar
For those in Massachusetts, calculates the advantage of increasingly-green (decarbonizing) grid
Graphically demonstrates year-to-year changes
