"Blue Box" (Promotional still)

Generations of Israelis and Jews grew up putting coins into the Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) Blue Boxes, helping to purchase lands that would become the State of Israel. In “Blue Box,” filmmaker Michal Weits explores the figure of her great grandfather Joseph Weits, a leading figure in the JNF.

Pouring through diaries and confronting family members, she tries to reconcile her great-grandfather’s contributions and his controversial legacy in the creation of the Jewish state. Eye-opening, illuminating and brave, “Blue Box” is essential viewing for open and honest conversations about painful truths.

Followed by a conversation with Director Michal Weits and her father/film subject Rami Weits via Zoom.

This film is screening in-person and virtually as part of the 34th Annual Boston Jewish Film Festival.
