Book Talk: Old and Sick in America

Renowned geriatrician and author Muriel Gillick will speak about the American health care system at a program sponsored by the Adult Education Committee. Muriel will be speaking about some of the themes contained in her recently published book, “Old and Sick in America: The Journey through the Health Care System.”

Among the topics she will cover are the quality of care for Medicare recipients; the role played by physicians, hospital administrators, device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and regulators in the Medicare system; and possible reforms.

Muriel Gillick is a physician specializing in the care of elderly patients and adults of all ages who are facing serious, life-threatening illness. She is a staff physician at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and a professor of population medicine at Harvard Medical School/Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. She provides consultation to patients at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a major Harvard teaching hospital.
