Maariv—the name for the evening prayer service—translates to “mixing.” The prayers in the service invite us to be in awe of the mixing of the evening’s darkness with day’s light, and to bring our days to a close. Join us on Monday evenings as we engage in a contemplative Maariv intended to bring you into a personal relationship with the evening prayers.

Our hour together will begin with study—each week we’ll explore myriad translations and interpretations of certain prayers in a traditional Maariv service. The second half of our time together will be a prayer experience. You’ll be guided along the arc of imagery and feelings the traditional prayers evoke, and together we’ll learn about silence as prayer. We’ll get to know a traditional Maariv service, and we’ll also mix it up with our own contemplations, shared quietude and prayer. You can expect to both engage in conversation and lean into a held space for quietude and passivity.
