Disability Justice: Context for Our Communities

May 1, 2016 Brookline Free
event

Do you love text study? Are you passionate about disability justice work? Interested in learning about disability and accessibility justice from a Jewish perspective, rooted in our texts and traditions??

This Sunday, we are blessed to have EmFish leading us in a workshop on past and current models of disability experience and justice and using them to interpret stories from the talmud.

Please join us Sunday afternoon for a wonderful opportunity to explore the intersections of disability justice and Jewish text. Emily Fishman will guide us as we study the social, medical, and political/relational models of disability and consider how Jewish texts and tradition might inform and deepen our understandings of these frameworks.

Emily Fishman (EmFish) is a speech-language pathologist, Torah reader, Talmud learner, and bike rider who enjoys instigating conversations about intersectionality and identity (with special interest in ability, education, and gender).

In EmFish’s words “I think it would be awesome to have a mix of people who are really into Jewish text but new to disability stuff and also people who are deep in the disability world but new to Jewish text and people without previous experience in either context! Jewish affiliation not required!”

Accessibility Information: wheelchair accessible, MBTA accessible, Kosher food, all gender bathroom, and children welcome!
